SILK background is first hand dyed from plants.Painted designs, colour coordinated to patchwork prints, add to the uniqueness of each garment. Newer garments from 2021 will be rather more tabard or kimono styled, in order to give focus on the painted panel.
I dye silk Ahimsa off-cuts acquired from an Irish fashion maker; called 'peace silk' where the silk worms are allowed to continue their cycle; a thicker silk like thin cotton, which tends to result in paler colours after steaming. Habotai standard silk is shiny and gives brighter colours.
Many shades of gold and cream silk backgrounds are achieved with natural plant, seed and bark dyes: from author's own wild foraging and woad growing. Use 'Search' for plants: e.g. 'comfrey' 'hawthorn' etc for author's plant dye processes experimented with so far: one for example with walnuts.
Garments are unique one-offs, not available in a range of sizes. Some are size adjustable at bust. Patchwork dresses in mostly linen, cotton, viscose, silk, lace. Knee length and longer. Fabric prints mixture: floral, illustrative, patterned, abstract, animal, geometric. Some with silk painted panels by maker. Commissions taken your fabrics or mine.

A few skirts are made each summer for Craft Fairs, with few pieces for quicker making than patchwork dresses and robes. Wraparound or elasticated waist is easy for most sizes. Turquoise Viscose (side flaps and sash belt). Silk voile patches of abstract circles print in greens and blues, machined on turquoise silk (which acts as upper skirt lining). Voile looks flimsy, but skirt is robust due to high viscose quality.

Many plants will yield a cream, gold or beige dye after soaking in water; cold or after boiling fibres. Variations possible with one dye stuff using modifiers. See Menu onPlant Dye Processes which gives procedure guidelines for many hand collected leaves, bark and seeds. It is a craft to experiment and discover with rather than achieve precise colours, as even the water affects the colour.
Shamanic Nights silk paintingon shiny Habotai 8 and Habotai 10 silks, or Ahimsa 'peace' silk' which is thicker and softer with only slight shine. Dye colours steam out more subtle on Ahimsa whereas shiny Habotai retains full brighter colours.
Some Silk Painting Examples: HOPI BIRD Designs - Three garment variations use one idea based on an abstract bird design from old Hopi pottery. In Red Hopi the bird design is painted on both white and black ground.
