Hawthorn Dye Spring Yellow Golds and Autumn Pink

Spring Hawthorn makes Golden Yellow and Orange - Gallery Below

Fresh blooms, light green leaves, small twigs

  • With no mordant on silk, colour is golden yellow after 24hrs, or 48hrs.
  • With Alum Sulphate used as pre-mordant, colour is more orange-peachy.
  • With thick Eri peace silk, steel pan gives yellow, whereas copper pan gives golden-peach
  • My copper pan could have aided the colour strength.
  • Modifiers were mixed in palette to discover what the colour changes to when different modifiers added: clockwise in image -

Aluminium Sulphate/Cream of Tartar/Citric Acid/Ferrous Sulphate/Sodium Carbonate/Calcium Carbonate

  • Silks washed out and dried bright yellow and peachy-orange, a bit lighter than wet colour.
